Before you order

The product page and checkout show the product, price, applicable tax, subscription period and delivery method. Prices are in pounds sterling unless stated otherwise. Qualifying ebooks are zero-rated for UK VAT; our £39 digital book price has no UK VAT added. Persona subscriptions and consulting are subject to VAT where applicable. A price marked “+ VAT” excludes tax; consumer prices also show the UK VAT-inclusive total. The final tax treatment depends on the product and customer location, and the checkout shows the amount due before payment.

One-off products and recurring subscriptions may require separate transactions because they use different billing flows. You can correct checkout details before submitting the order. Stripe receipts provide payment confirmation; they are not necessarily VAT invoices. If you need a VAT invoice for a qualifying purchase, email hello@backstorygroup.co.uk with your order number and invoicing details. Do not send card details.

Accounts, orders, and payment

A direct purchase may create a customer account so you can see orders, retrieve downloads, and manage persona entitlements. Keep the details accurate and credentials secure. Stripe processes card payments. An order is accepted when we confirm it and make the purchased content or entitlement available. We may reject or refund an order affected by obvious pricing error, fraud, sanctions, or inability to supply.

Books and other digital content

Unless a product says otherwise, a book purchase gives the named customer a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to download and read the supplied files on their own compatible devices and keep a private backup. It doesn’t transfer copyright or permit resale, public distribution, shared download libraries, or removal of rights notices. Product pages identify supplied formats; you need a compatible reader and a connection to download the files.

Amazon orders are made with Amazon and are governed by Amazon’s checkout, delivery, cancellation, and account terms. We don’t receive or control Amazon payment-card details.

Premium Persona subscriptions

Premium Personas are annual subscriptions. Individual and team tiers, included seats, taxes, renewal price, and billing period are shown before purchase. Subscriptions renew annually until cancelled. You can manage renewal through My Account or the billing route provided. Cancellation stops the next renewal; access and updates continue until the paid term ends.

The separate Premium Persona Licence explains named seats, reassignment, machine limits, downloads, updates, and what happens at expiry.

The Engineering With AI harness

The harness is free to install from npm. The public source is made available for transparency under the licence published with the repository and package. Free use of the package doesn’t grant a right to sell, repackage, or build a commercial derivative where the licence prohibits it. Integrations and project-specific extensions may be created within the published licence boundaries.

Delivery, cancellation, and remedies

Downloads and licences are normally supplied through the account, confirmation page, email, or licence service. Read Digital Content and Cancellations. Statutory rights remain unaffected, including rights where digital content is faulty or not as described.

Updates and availability

Subscription content receives additions and revisions during the active term as described on the product page. We may change formats, delivery routes and supporting services to improve them, fix faults, maintain security or comply with law. We’ll use reasonable care but don’t promise uninterrupted access to every supporting system. Keep lawful backups where the licence permits.

If a change materially reduces what you bought during a paid term, we’ll give reasonable advance notice and a route to end the affected service with a refund of unused prepaid fees if you reject the change. Urgent legal or security changes may take effect sooner, with an explanation as soon as reasonably possible. This does not limit statutory remedies.

Responsible use

Books, personas, documentation, and the harness support engineering and decision-making. They don’t replace professional advice, security review, legal advice, accountable judgement, testing, or approval. You’re responsible for how you apply them and for checking outputs generated with an AI system.

Intellectual property

Backstory Group Limited and identified contributors retain intellectual-property rights. Each product’s licence states what you may copy, install, adapt, or share. You may not evade access controls, share licence keys, exceed seats or machine limits, scrape protected content, or represent our work as your own.

Our responsibility

Nothing excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or another liability that can’t be excluded. Mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.

For business customers, subject to those exceptions, our aggregate liability relating to a purchase is limited to the greater of £100 and the amount paid for the affected product or subscription in the preceding 12 months. We aren’t liable for indirect or consequential business loss, loss of profit, revenue, goodwill, or anticipated savings. You remain responsible for backups and production decisions.

Law and changes

Scottish law governs these terms and Scottish courts have jurisdiction, subject to mandatory consumer rights. We may update terms for future orders or renewals. We’ll give active subscribers reasonable notice of a material change affecting their next renewal.
